In Fall 2024 we celebrated our 40th Fall Sewing Retreat! To celebrate the incredible 40 years since our first Fall Sewing Retreat in 1985, we Stitching Girls had a big party complete with gift exchange and raffles for sewing related prises. We also enjoyed our every year activities - Bring and Brag project sharing and Brown Bag Challenge. The remainder of the time we sewed for 4 days, with the option of 2 different classes - a Mary Poppins style bag and a Safe wallet. Fall 2022 was our first retreat in Seabeck's new Pines building! What an wonderful sewing and sleeping space. It is well lit and spacious with plenty of power outlets in the the walls and the floors. 30 of us spread out, most with our own tables. The view of Hood Canal and the Olympic Mountains out the surrounding windows was spectacular and ever changing. Inspirational quilts hung on every available wall, including our bedrooms. We had so much fun sewing and sharing our project at our annual "Bring & Brag" night, that we are planning for a 4 night retreat next year and may even reintroduce some classes. It rained almost the whole time and we didn't care! Camp Huston in Gold Bar on the west side of Steven's Pass has comfy sewing and living spaces, covered walkways for damp days, good food and beautiful hiking trails when you want a break from sitting at your machine. This Retreat welcomes all who want to come sew with us. Even without classes, we have lots of ideas sharing between us, so there is always something to learn, no matter what level of sewist you are. The photos below show the variety of projects that draw us all together. (On larger screens, Click on any picture to see as a slideshow and click on right/left of larger picture to navigate.)
Beautiful Setting - Great Food - Limited Space - Members Only This will be our 4th Winter Retreat at St Andrews House. Its location at the food of Hood Canal gives us an incredible view of this small extension of Puget Sound and the Olympic Mountains - right from the sewing room. This Do-Your-Own-Projects sewing get-away with our wonderfully creative sewing sisters is a big favorite and fills up fast. Because of the small lodge, we limit this Retreat to 18 Members Only. We start a waiting list early and yes, the list does turn over, so get on it as soon as you can. Our FIRST FALL RETREAT since COVID ! Unlike our usual Fall Retreats, we had no Classes, so it was another unstructured event. However, we did continue our most popular "Bring and Brag" evening of sharing projects we had created during the months between retreats. We also caught up on some previous "Brown Bag Exchange Challenge" projects to see what people had created, plus started a new Challenge for going forward. Even while wearing facemasks and social distancing for Covid protection, we were so happy to get together again with our sewing sisters. Our FIRST RETREAT AFTER COVID ! This unstructured weekend was held at Camp Huston in Gold Bar, WA near Steven with Pass. A fun get-away for sewing projects of our own with our sewing buddies new and old. This was our first weekdays retreat at the lovely St Andrews House on Hood Canal. We arrived with snow still on the ground. The beautiful setting and comfortable accomodations made this small get together with our sewing friends a happy success. We can't wait to come back! Originally begun as an American Sewing Guild event, but ultimately spun off on its own, our very first Vashon Island Sewing Retreat took place at Camp Burton from September 29 through Oct 2, 1985 with 33 attendees. Little did we know that this popular event would keep going for more than 30 years!
